چکیده

septum formation. Migration assays performed on primary cell cultures of myofibroblasts from wild type and Rfx3 / lungs show that Rfx3 / myofibroblasts loose their capacities to respond to environmental factors as guidance cues. We are currently dissecting the signaling cascades that are impaired in Rfx3-deficient myofibroblasts. In conclusion, RFX3 regulates primary ciliary growth and governs myofibroblast differentiation program in the developing lungs. Our work therefore suggests a novel function of primary cilia during lung development in vivo.

Primary cilia control telencephalic patterning and morphogenesis via Gli3 proteolytic processing.

Primary cilia have essential functions in vertebrate development and signaling. However, little is known about cilia function in brain morphogenesis, a process that is severely affected in human ciliopathies. Here, we study telencephalic morphogenesis in a mouse mutant for the ciliopathy gene Ftm (Rpgrip1l). We show that the olfactory bulbs are present in an ectopic location in the telencephalo...

Modeling of Brain Structures Responsible for Smell

The sense of smell is an important to both humans and animals. The olfactory system, which senses and processes odors, is one of the oldest and most important parts of the brain. The olfactory bulb aids in discriminating and identifying different odors. Olfaction begins when scents enter the nasal cavities and stimulate over 50 million receptor neurons (Travis, 1999). Specialized receptors reac...

Primary cilia and forebrain development

With a microtubule-based axoneme supporting its plasma membrane-ensheathed projection from the basal body of almost all cell types in the human body, and present in only one copy per cell, the primary cilium can be considered an organelle sui generis. Although it was first observed and recorded in histological studies from the late 19th century, the tiny structure was essentially forgotten for ...

The Type 3 Adenylyl Cyclase Is Required for the Survival and Maturation of Newly Generated Granule Cells in the Olfactory Bulb

The type 3 adenylyl cyclase (AC3) is localized to olfactory cilia in the main olfactory epithelium (MOE) and primary cilia in the adult mouse brain. Although AC3 has been strongly implicated in odor perception and olfactory sensory neuron (OSN) targeting, its role in granule cells (GCs), the most abundant interneurons in the main olfactory bulb (MOB), remains largely unknown. Here, we report th...

FGF signaling through FGFR1 is required for olfactory bulb morphogenesis.

During development, the embryonic telencephalon is patterned into different areas that give rise to distinct adult brain structures. Several secreted signaling molecules are expressed at putative signaling centers in the early telencephalon. In particular, Fgf8 is expressed at the anterior end of the telencephalon and is hypothesized to pattern it along the anteroposterior (AP) axis. Using a CR...
